About us and how it all started.
We both come from families whose parents taught us to have a good “Work Ethic”. Roger started work helping a local Baker Roundsman delivering bread on busy Saturdays, which entailed a 3am start. That was early for anyone, let alone a 12 year old boy. Marian helped in the family Fish & Chip shop, and later on a Market Stall. So we were both familiar with having a good work ethic, before we got into mainstream regular employment.
This work ethic of hard work, punctuality & reliability formed part of our lives, even after we met and married in the early 1980s. Especially during our time in farming where it became a part of everyday life, and continued right up until our retirement in 2012.
We always had pets, and had been limited on our travels in the past, as anytime away was usually limited because of the need to kennel our pets. In 2014 our cat Fossee, the last in a long line of dogs & cats which had been part of our family over the years, finally succumbed to a grand age of 17 herself.
It’s not until you don’t have something that you realise how much they are missed?
Could we become Pet Grannies?
One of the benefits of being a Gran, is having the enjoyment of seeing the children, but then giving them back. What if we could do the same, but with pets? We love animals, so why not look after someone else’s pets, have that enjoyment, but be able give them back.
We could be walking a dog, fussing a cat, and not just sitting at home missing that part of life.
More importantly not only would it bring us enjoyment, but give pet owners to peace of mind knowing their pets were at home, being cared for on a one-to-one basis and not in a kennel
The benefits for the pet owners;
- Pets at home
- No expensive kennel fees
- Their garden would be kept tidy
- Their home kept secure knowing it was occupied for at least 21 hours a day.
Complete “Peace of Mind”
Who would they be able to trust to take on such a responsible task?
It would need to be;
- Car owners
- Non-smokers
- A mature couple
- Police Record Checked [DBS]
- Experience of livestock & pets
- Have excellent references/reviews
- No expensive kennel costs.
A “Win-Win” situation.
We don’t charge a fee, but we do ask for a contribution towards our expenses. That contribution would be a lot less than any kennel fees, and your home would also be secure in the process, not to mention getting the grass cut too!
What you DON’T want.
- A tourist seeking a FREE holiday
- Someone wanting a base whilst sightseeing
If someone is wanting a bolt hole for tourism, they will be undertaking the assignment for the wrong motives, and will have a “feed ‘n’ go” mindset towards your pets.
They will not spend time playing, or grooming, and they will be in occupancy for as little time as possible.
